Last week, Jef Ausloos gave an invited tutorial at the ACM FAT* Conference in Barcelona. This conference brings together researchers and practitioners interested in fairness, accountability, and transparency in socio-technical systems. Jointly with Damian Clifford (ANU) and Laurens Naudts (KU Leuven), Jef presented his work on the concept of “fairness” in EU data protection law. The goal of the tutorial was to explore this vague legal concept together with an interdisciplinary audience. The tutorial was highly attended by a very diverse audience from across the world.
