Digital technologies can be part of solutions to societal crises. In fact, technological solutions are important in strategies to manage the current pandemic. These technologies range from medical data mining, use of cell phone location data to monitoring population movements and compliance, self-reporting and -diagnosis applications, and apps for contact tracking and tracing.

In addition, it identifies specific groups (e.g. based on demographics, health status or literacy levels) that differ in their degree of acceptance of such technologies, or that are excluded or disproportionality affected.
