Operationalising Research Access in Platform Governance

This week, ICDS researchers Jef Ausloos and Paddy Leerssen presented their new report on access to platform data, in partnership with AlgorithmWatch.

The report, ‘Operationalising Research Access in Platform Governance’, seeks to identify best practices for regulating the transparency of platform services for purposes of public interest research. To this end, it draws on best practices in other areas of transparency regulation, namely environmental regulation and medical research.

The report was presented in a two-day event, attended by members of academia as well as policymakers from the European Parliament and European Commission, who provided additional comments and input for final drafting. Two related reports from the Mainz Media Institute, available here and here, were also launched at this event.

The final report from AlgorithmWatch and ICDS will be published in late June.
